Call for communications

The THNS Forum is an International Symposium on the Sustainable Development of Urban Transport Systems. Since its foundation in 2008, it has been fostering the international exchange of scientific knowledge about High Quality transportation, in line with technological advances in systems operations, intelligent systems, urban planning, vehicle electrification and autonomous driving.

Indeed, transportation services deliver value to their users, at the expense of production means and costs along with social and environmental externalities. The 2025 edition of the Forum, with the main theme of "The Value of Transport",is aimed to reporting on recent or emerging advances in these respects, in relation to socioeconomic operations as well as to technological progress. Communications are called for on the following main theme and six themes.

Theme 1: Quality of service: it’s about the design and operational performance of passenger transit services, urban or interurban, in terms of efficiency, availability, accessibility and affordability to their customers. What advances are under way, regarding which mode(s), possibly progressing to a Mobility as a Service (MaaS) scheme?

Theme 2: Value creation of rapid transit: the concept of “Rapid Transit”, by speeding up vehicle circulation, increasing frequency, straightening the pathway and facilitating the riders’ access points, is important for transit ridership and market share in the urban setting. How does the concept extend to suburban conditions and to the access of remote workers to metropolitan cores?

Theme 3: Overall value to community and funding systems: transport agencies take into consideration both user satisfaction and inhabitants’ needs and desires to design mobility plans and to contract for service provision, including subsidizing schemes. Communications are called for about specific plans linking service objectives to funding schemes, at all spatial scales from urban to regional, national and interregional.

Theme 4: Health and transportation. Air pollutants emitted by thermic vehicles have long been a major concern in large cities as they impair residents’ health. What is the current state of things, owing to improved mobility plans along with the advent of electric vehicles? Case studies are invited for presentation and discussion.

Theme 5: Transport and energy. Electric vehicles (EV) are prominent means to curb air pollution as well as carbon emissions and the related climate effects. What are the current state and on-going trends regarding EV types, performances, prices and marked shares?

Theme 6: Autonomous vehicles and their applications: Beyond vehicle electrification, autonomous vehicles (AVs) make the next technological advance towards more efficient transportation services. Communications about AV experimentations and deployment cases are called for, with special focus on service quality and operational profitability.

Keynotes presentations

East-west exchanges of knowledge will be fostered by dual keynote sessions pairing a Chinese professor and a western counterpart.
